India is one country where freelancing has become very popular. More and more people are turning towards the internet to apply their skills and earn some money. Some people do it part-time for additional income while some people navigate it full time to earn more money than most day jobs provide. But since it is becoming such a competitive market, one should know a few things before starting out.

Freelance jobs in India aren’t hard to come by because the sheer amount of work out there is more than enough for everybody. It is the quality projects that everyone competes for and if you’re looking for work satisfaction as a freelancer, it may be hard for you at first. When big projects with good pay come by, employers aren’t looking to hire someone with the lowest bid. In fact, if you’re underselling yourself, you should stop immediately. Always charge what you’re worth because that’s how you’ll establish your place in the freelance market. When projects are big, employers are looking for quality over cheapness. If you think you’re skilled enough to manage a big project, always ask for what your time and effort is worth.

However, freelancers who are just starting out cannot afford to wait around for big projects. Clients look at your portfolio and if it is empty, they do not even consider you. So how do you build your portfolio? Well, the first thing to do is to take on projects of multiple types so you know what you’re good at. Don’t overload yourself at once. Give yourself a couple of months to try out various jobs and establish a work schedule. Even when you take on smaller projects, only take on good ones. Doing work that is completely dissatisfying will not help you in the long run and may dissuade you from freelancing altogether.

Always sign up on multiple websites and don’t be afraid of getting lost. Websites of different kinds exists in India. Some lets freelancers bid on projects while on others, freelancers can list their services along with their fee. That way, employers who are interested in your work will contact you instead of you having to chase them around. Trying your chances on every portal is the best way to find freelance India jobs. Over time, you will learn your best options and be able to function fully as an independent freelancer in India.
