Driverless locomotive technology offers control over all the trains and a predefined railroad infrastructure for intelligent navigation. Automated trains are being used to increase the network capacity, effective control and monitor of traffic. These trains use automated systems which optimize their running time, average speed and reliability. For example, 75km long Dubai Metro and Copenhagen Metro are a few examples of automated train network. Also, Australian mining company, Rio Tinto is investing $500 million on the first ever fully automated long-distance trains to deliver its iron ores to ports. The CEO of German Railways, Ruediger Grube made an announcement stating that the German railways would be fully automated by 2023, thus indicating high demand for driverless automotive technologies in the forecast period.
THE BUSINESS RESEARCH COMPANY EXPECTS THE GLOBAL ENGINE, TURBINE, AND POWER TRANSMISSION EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING MARKET TO GROW TO $792 BILLION BY 2021
Asia Pacific was the largest region in the engine, turbine, and power transmission equipment manufacturing market in 2017, accounting for more than one-third of the market share.
According to The Business Research Company’s Consultant, Nitin Gianchandani, With the significant rise in pollution, diesel engine manufacturers are adopting latest emission treatments to bring down emission levels. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technologies are extensively being used by diesel engine manufacturers to reduce NOx emissions which are harmful at certain levels to the atmosphere. Exhaust Gas Recirculation involves treating the exhaust gasses produced, by re-circulating them in a combustion chamber in the presence of oxygen. This leads to combustion process occurring at low temperature, thereby reducing the formation of NOx. Selective Catalytic Reduction uses different catalysts like aqueous ammonia to convert NOx into diatomic and water. Earlier used in waste management, this method has now integrated with power generators to reduce NOx emissions by 75-95% thereby setting a trend. Major companies like Cummins, Komatsu and Volvo have implemented these techniques in their mid and heavy-duty engine range which is mostly used in the mining industry. GE has also integrated EGR technology with their marine engines.
