Rishabh Pant broke Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record of having the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper in T20Is. The 21-year-old batsman scored 65 that contributed to the team during their third T20I against the West Indies on August 6.
Pant currently fills in the spot of the legendary cricketer who is absent for the entire duration of the tour. Dhoni is currently having his two-month break before serving his paramilitary regiment. He confirmed previously that he will not be retiring after speculations of retirement broke out in cricket news.
In the absence of MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant will play across three formats on the tour. The two opposing teams are set to play three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests.
During the third T20I match, Pant showed a successful performance. He hit 4 sixes and 4 boundaries then he finished with 65 runs in 42 balls. Pant and Kohli partnered and scored a 106-run stand enough to thrash the West Indies.
India won the match by seven wickets. They are now leading 3-0 after the three-match T20Is. Deepak Chahar was named as man of the match as he finished an impressive figure of 3/4 in 3 overs.
"The atmosphere was pretty good, I tried to swing the ball as the weather was conducive. The wicket was good and so was the weather. I assessed the conditions and I bowled more in-swingers than out-swingers. It was difficult to play against the ball coming into the batsman as compared to the one going away from the batsman. I usually bowl with old balls in nets, that's how I prepare myself. When the bowl is swinging, I don't use many variations. I was assessing the conditions on the first ball of every over," Chahar stated in an interview.
The two teams will now proceed to their first ODI match that will take place in Providence Stadium in Guyana on August 8. Cricket fans are now checking out the odds for the upcoming match and ready to place their bets on the teams they’re rooting for.
