Mangal Dosha, also known as Kuja Dosha occurs when a person is under the negative effect of Mars, which is regarded a malefic planet in Vedic Astrology. In a birth chart, there are 12 houses. If Mars comes in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house of the ascendant chart, astrologically the person concerned is said to have mangal dosha. It is also known by other names such as Bhom Dosha, Kuja Dosha and Angaraaka Dosha. In Indian Astrology, Mangal Dosha is considered as the foremost component to be judged at the time of kundli milaan or Horoscope matching. One of the most formidable outcomes associated with Mangal Dosha is its influence on the longevity of spouse and the conjugal relationship.

However, the outcome of Mangal Dosha is not always dreadful. There are certain planetary positions and combinations that mitigate the effect automatically. Mangal Dosha is also considered with respect to Mars’ position from Moon and Venus in houses mentioned above. Mars’ placement from Moon and Venus is given due importance in Vedic Astrology because moon indicates the mental state and emotions of a person while Venus signifies marital union.  In addition, there are certain remedial measures than can be taken to dilute the effect. So what actually is Mangal Dosha, why so much fear and worry about it? Let me explain how it is formed.

Mars in Ascendant – Mars is the embodiment of aggression and courage. This is a good position for both male and female. However in the context of marriage, the male may turn too violent and physical if Mars is spoilt by other malefics. For females, in today’s context this is required so that they can face the world boldly. But this quality may not be liked by some traditional families looking for a bride.

Mars in 2nd House – 2nd house signifies wealth, and relationship with relatives. Mars’ position in 2nd house makes a person inimical to relatives and causes separation from the spouse. Mars aspects 5th, 8th, and 9th houses when positioned in 2nd house, which casts negative effect on children of the Manglik.

Mars in 4th House – This will have adverse effects at the professional front. Such a person will switch jobs and also will not be successful professionally. Financial trouble will keep lurking.

Mars in 5th House – For a female, this is a serious placement and is to be studied deeply.  Fifth house is the house of progeny and child bearing ability of the lady. Association with Saturn may delay issues. Other malefics like Ketu can cause miscarriage / abortions. Serious afflictions may deny progeny. This placement in male chart also gives us a clue about progeny.

Mars in 7th House – 7th House is the house of life partner and marital life. Mars placement in this house causes serious harm to the marital union including separation, weak reproductive system, sexual diseases, and even death.  From 7th House, Mars aspects the houses of profession, the ascendant and immediate family, thus affecting close relationships, health of the couple, and accumulated wealth.

Mars in 8th House – 8th house is the house of Longevity and for spouse it is the ‘Mangalya Sthana’ This is a serious placement of Mars and you have to very careful in analyzing the chart considering all other aspects. Do not be hasty in coming to a conclusion. 8th house can also mean late marriage and need not necessarily affect longevity.

Mars in 12th House – In the 12th House, Mangal will aspect the 7th House and as it is in the 12th House of bed comforts, one may be highly active in sexual activity and hamper the marriage home due to frivolous sexual demands and activity.

Above are given the true effects of Mangal Dosha/ Kuja Dosha.

Unfortunately most of the time, people purely and instantly predict Mangal Dosha just by noting the planetary position of Mangal. But many people do not heed to the notes of Parashar about the natural cancellation of Mangal Dosha.
